Knitting abbreviation G st stands for garter stitch. It is a basic stitch which creates textured stripes. It's a great stitch to use on the edges of your work as it prevents fabric from curling in on itself.

To work garter stitch when working back and forth, knit every row. To work this stitch in the round, alternate knit and purl rounds.
