Backward yarn over is made by bringing the over the needle to the front and then back again. It is also known as a twisted yarn over. It's often used when switching from knit to purl stitch.
To do this, leave the yarn at the back after a knit stitch, insert the needle into a stitch purlwise, bring the yarn to the front, and complete the stitch as normal.
